CROWNS & BRIDGES
If you have a damaged or decayed tooth with compromised tooth structure, our dentist can help you choose the best solution. Crowns and bridges are custom-fitted tooth prosthetics that function and look like natural, healthy teeth. These strong porcelain or resin shells come in customisable colors and are cemented to the surface of your teeth.
CROWNS
A crown, otherwise known as a cap, is custom-fitted to your bite and is placed over your natural tooth or dental implant. We recommend this procedure for those who have a compromised or weakened tooth structure due to decay, multiple failed restorations or root canal treatment.
THE PROCEDURE:
We will prep the compromised tooth down the a peg shape
An impression will be taken for crown fabrication
The color of your new artificial crown can then be customized to match your other teeth
We will fit you with a temporary crown until the lab makes your permanent one
You will come in again for your permanent crown fitting after around 2-3 weeks
BRIDGES
Simply a bridge is to replace a missing tooth. Essentially a bridge is two crowns and a fake tooth (called a pontic), fused together to form the bridge. We recommend bridges as opposed to dental implants in cases of gum recession or if neighbouring teeth are compromised with decay and/or large fillings.
TYPES OF BRIDGES
Traditional — Caps are bonded over teeth that lie on either side of the missing one
Cantilever — Cap is bonded over a single tooth next to the missing one
THE PROCEDURE:
We will prep the neighbouring tooth/teeth down the a peg shape
An impression will be taken for bridge fabrication
The color of your new artificial bridge can then be customized to match your other teeth
We will fit you with a temporary crown over the neighbouring teeth until the lab makes your permanent bridge
You will come in again for your permanent bridge fitting after around 2-3 weeks
